Summary

Set in England in the early 19th century, Pride and Prejudice tells the story of Mr。 and Mrs。 Bennet's five unmarried daughters after the rich and eligible Mr。 Bingley and his status-conscious friend, Mr。 Darcy, have moved into their neighborhood。
When Elizabeth Bennet meets Mr。 Darcy she is repelled by his overbearing pride, and prejudice towards her family。 But the Bennet girls are in need of financial security in the shape of husbands, so when Darcy's friend, the affable Mr。 Bingley, forms an attachment to Jane, Darcy becomes increasingly hard to avoid。 Polite society will be turned upside down in this witty drama of friendship, rivalry, and love—Jane Austen's classic romance novel。

Sheer Perfection! I hadn't read this book in over 20 years, despite being an avid fan of all things P&P (the 1995 BBC version being the best)。 I am so happy I decided to try it again。 No film, no alternate version, can do it justice。 Elizabeth and Darcy live on in perfect characterization。 They are so real, and you almost expect them to be sitting right next to you。 If you've never read it, give it a whirl。 And if it's been awhile, curl up and enjoy! Pride and Prejudice makes me feel as if I'm literally standing right next to Lizzy and twirling away at the balls, giggling about silly things, and visiting lush manors。 The witty banter and romance between Lizzy and Mr。 Darcy just makes me ASDFGHJKL Everything about this book is amazing and there's no changing my mind。 Pride and Prejudice makes me feel as if I'm literally standing right next to Lizzy and twirling away at the balls, giggling about silly things, and visiting lush manors。 The witty banter and romance between Lizzy and Mr。 Darcy just makes me ASDFGHJKL Everything about this book is amazing and there's no changing my mind。 。。。more

A classic tale of unrequited love and the expectations for women in a marriage-centric society, laced with just enough humor to make you float from page to page。 Again, an absolute classic everyone should read, and one of Austen's best works。 A seemingly simple novel about simple folk in the English countryside in the 1800s turns into so much more。 Austen is able to accurately dive into the psyche of her 'simple' characters, exposing the complexities that lie underneath。 Elizabeth Bennet's chara A classic tale of unrequited love and the expectations for women in a marriage-centric society, laced with just enough humor to make you float from page to page。 Again, an absolute classic everyone should read, and one of Austen's best works。 A seemingly simple novel about simple folk in the English countryside in the 1800s turns into so much more。 Austen is able to accurately dive into the psyche of her 'simple' characters, exposing the complexities that lie underneath。 Elizabeth Bennet's character development if phenomenal。 She's a complex female protagonist who was way ahead of her time。 Not to mention, the excellent (probable) first use of the 'enemies to lovers' trope makes this classic an absolute page-turner。 。。。more

Watched the 1995 BBC miniseries last week on a whim (how am I 25 years late to this?!?! Just embarrassing with how much I loved it)。 Ended up immediately buying the audiobook version by Rosemund Pike and was enchanted。 What a lovely classic book。 💞

Pride and Prejudice is probably my favorite book on my shelf。 I have plenty of faves but there is just something about Mr。 Darcy and Elizabeth that draws me to them time and time again。 I have read the book 2 times now and plan to read it again。 I just love the story and it's really one of less than a handful of romances that I actually like and appreciate。 Pride and Prejudice is probably my favorite book on my shelf。 I have plenty of faves but there is just something about Mr。 Darcy and Elizabeth that draws me to them time and time again。 I have read the book 2 times now and plan to read it again。 I just love the story and it's really one of less than a handful of romances that I actually like and appreciate。 。。。more

I’m a bit embarrassed to admit I’ve never read this before despite loving the 2005 film adaptation。 I finally listened to the audiobook read by Rosamund Pike and really enjoyed it。

“I could easily forgive his pride, if he had not mortified mine。” I was thoroughly engrossed and though i love the movie (2005) to pieces, I think the book helps you understand the situations occuring during this story a bit more。

The annotated edition is excellent in revealing exactly how much Austen was snarking at literally everyone and everything。

Great story。 This is just one that I comprehend better when it’s on a screen as opposed to a page。

i reread this book every chance i get, and i never get tired of it <3 if you’re not into classics it might be a lil hard to wrap your head around at first but i’d recommend watching the 2005 film adaptation if you need help understanding what’s going on。 one of my favorite classics up to this day。 we all know mr darcy and elizabeth bennett are the original blueprint of enemies to lovers。 hand scene lives in my mind rent free。

রূপকথার গল্পের মতো হাস্যকর। তবে গল্পের ভেতরের দর্শন গুড।

Extremely well written, with just the right amount of detail!

Mr。 Darcy & Ms。 Bennett will forever be ❤️。 Honestly, Pride & Prejudice is one book that everyone must read atleast once。 It explores the themes of pride, prejudice & love in a story set in the times of regency balls。

eva aposto

Truly a timeless classic。 Have read this multiple times and the description of Pemberley always sticks with me。

I kept reading only because it is a classic。 But it was so hard, especially the middle part。 Both the writing and the story weren't so captivating to me, possibly because it is so old and language and society has been different back then。There have been parts where I did not understand the conclusions of the author and characters based on previous descriptions, or where I simply missed crucial turns of events。Tiny Spoiler:I still don't understand why everyone was so happy when Lydia got married。 I kept reading only because it is a classic。 But it was so hard, especially the middle part。 Both the writing and the story weren't so captivating to me, possibly because it is so old and language and society has been different back then。There have been parts where I did not understand the conclusions of the author and characters based on previous descriptions, or where I simply missed crucial turns of events。Tiny Spoiler:I still don't understand why everyone was so happy when Lydia got married。 And I know it was common at the time, but I don't like how the only focus was for the women to find a husband。 I did not learn much about the female characters other than a few sexist character and behavior assumptions。 So even thought the author is a woman, does not mean the book was anyhow feminist or beyond its time。 。。。more

Why am I so conflicted about this book? Is it the extensive Austen detailing of the oh-so-fortunate high Regency-era class? Is it because the 2005 adaptation romanticized the living sh*t out of this story that when I read it ~after~ the movie I was somewhat satisfied yet disappointed at the same time? I genuinely do not know。 What I do know is that I love Elizabeth and perhaps Mary。 Maybe even Lydia for being so prideful yet ignorant at a measly 15 years old。 But the men kinda just suck— besides Why am I so conflicted about this book? Actions speak louder than words。 I love you。 Just believe me”, and making me raise my standards of men even higher because Darcy is so unaware-ingly good at being emotionally intelligent, I like this book because of its rude awakenings。 Despite all of its Austen-ish extravaganza, the story tells a bitterly realistic truth: People either marry/act simply for reputation and money while others marry/act simply for happiness。 And that’s kinda…all。 Life has always been the same regardless of the time period or socioeconomic class— Live your life how you want or get busy dying。 Elizabeth just happens to luck out ‘cause she was born destined for greatness, I suppose… 。。。more

There is no better aesthetic than the regency era。Oh, to be a single woman in search of a wealthy man, spending her evenings at balls and hating her enemy and still, longing for him。

Charlotte Gauthier

am i entering my smart era? anyways, this was fun to read and it’s definitely different from what i usually pick up, which is a refreshing change

pretty good ngl
